Castile, Leon and La Rioja
Ávila is the
highest city of all Spain. It has the best conserved Medieval
Walls of all Europe. In addition, can be visited the Convent
of Santa Teresa de Jesus. Segovia, located to 80 km of
Madrid, has a Roman Aqueduct, unique by its sort in the
world, a Cathedral and a Medieval Palace. The province
of Soria has many archaeological deposits of the Celtiberian
and Roman times. The Numantine Museum of the capital has
an excellent collection with the best pieces. Other interesting
buildings in the capital are the Church of San Juan de
Duero, the Cathedral of San Pedro and the Palace of the
Gomara Counts.
Palencia formerly was the residence of the Kings of Castile
and seat of Castilian Courts. The Cathedral of Palencia
-also known as the Beautiful Stranger- it’s the
best late gothic example of all Spain. Burgos, in addition
to being the city where the Cid was born, have an impressive
gothic Cathedral. Valladolid is the capital and the most
important city of the Independent Community of Castile
and Leon. It’s famous by its Gardens and its Major
Parties celebrated in September.
The city of Leon was reconquered to the Arabs in year
850. The Cathedral is very pure gothic style and a visit
to contemplate its famous vitreaux is recommended. Salamanca
is located at the borders of the Tormes River. The city
has two Cathedrals and one University, the oldest of Europe.
Zamora has a Roman Cathedral with a visigod cimborrio
and several 12th century Churches. To 120 km of Zamora
is the Lake of Sanabria, one of the greatest natural lakes
of all the country; the region is one of the zones of
prettier oak forest of Spain.
